FREE River & Canal Closure Alerts All In One Place

One free service. Two major navigation authorities. Less time checking for closures and more time planning your next paddle.
Planning a paddling trip is exciting, but keeping track of lock closures, navigation stoppages and restrictions can be a headache. The Canal & River Trust (CRT) and Environment Agency (EA) both publish navigation notices and offer their own email alerts. Until now, paddlers following waterways managed by both organisations have generally needed to use two separate services.
That is why I have launched Paddle With Tom Waterway Alerts — a FREE service bringing CRT and EA navigation notices together in one place.
CRT + EA: Two Authorities, One Alert Service
The biggest benefit is simple: one subscription can cover both Canal & River Trust and Environment Agency waterways. Instead of switching between separate systems, you can follow the rivers and canals that matter to you. It is especially useful if, like me, you regularly paddle different waterways across England and Wales.
Choose Your Rivers and Canals
Select individual waterways, choose regions, or follow all rivers or all canals. Your alerts are tailored to your interests, so you do not have to sift through notices for places you never paddle.
Daily Digests or Immediate Alerts
Prefer a morning roundup? Choose a daily email digest, scheduled for 8 am UK time, covering relevant new or updated notices. Want to hear sooner? Immediate alerts are checked hourly. You can choose either option or both.
What Will the Alerts Cover?
Depending on the official notices published, the service can highlight river and canal closures, lock stoppages, maintenance works, navigation restrictions, obstructions, affected locations and dates. Always check the linked official notice before setting off.
Browse Current Waterway Closures Online
You do not need to subscribe to browse the notices. The free Paddle With Tom Waterway Alerts dashboard brings current river and canal notices into one convenient view: https://www.paddlewithtom.com/alerts
Why I Built It
A closed lock or unexpected restriction can completely change a kayak trip. I wanted a simpler way to check multiple waterways and save time when planning adventures. This service does not replace the CRT or EA: it brings their published information together to make it easier for paddlers to find.
Sign Up — It Is Completely Free
Choose your waterways and email preferences, then let Paddle With Tom do the checking. One subscription. Rivers and canals. Free alerts.
Important Information
Paddle With Tom is an independent paddling resource and is not affiliated with the Canal & River Trust or Environment Agency. Alerts are provided for convenience and may not reflect every change immediately. Always confirm navigation restrictions, river conditions and weather with the relevant official sources before paddling.
